Who Are We: History

Reformation Vermont is a growing fellowship of churches from central Vermont that gather in Brandon for an annual conference around the biblical truths emphasized in the Protestant Reformation. 

In the sixteenth century, Christians such as Martin Luther, John Calvin, Huldrych Zwingli, John Knox, and many others called the church to reform and return to the central themes of the gospel: the authority of Scripture, salvation by grace alone through faith alone, the sufficiency of Christ, and the glory of God.  Although the goal was to reform and unify, ultimately the controversy resulted in the emergence of the Protestant churches. 

Reformation Vermont celebrates that same goal of unity around biblical truth. Anyone who desires to grow in their understanding of Scripture and the gospel is warmly welcome. Our annual two-day conference is filled with joyful worship, Christian fellowship, and messages centered on a theme derived from the Reformation.

From 2017 to 2024 the conference focused primarily on the foundational doctrines of the Reformation, often summarized in the Five Solas: Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone, and to the Glory of God Alone.

Last year, in 2025, we began a new series entitled Practical Reformation Principles.  Our conferences in this series follow in the reformers’ footsteps to apply scripture to every area of life. Our first in the series, "Your Work Matters to God", reminded us that our daily labor is every bit as much an act of worship as our gathered praise on the Lord's Day.

The fellowship of churches involved in Reformation Vermont continues to change from year to year, but our purpose remains the same: to encourage unity among Vermont Christians around the truth of Scripture and the gospel. That purpose is reflected in this year’s theme, “Your Life Matters to God!

Our Purpose

To collaborate among Vermont congregations to advance the gospel through the biblical truths of the Reformation, and to foster unity and shared identity as the body of Christ.

Our Doctrinal Affirmation

Reformation Vermont is a loose affiliation of pastors and churches that share a passion for the gospel and the core doctrines that drove the Reformation. Pastors and Elders who contribute content and speak at our events must affirm a basic statement as follows:

• Fellowship members must be faithful members in good standing of a local Bible-believing church

• Fellowship members must be committed to the inspiration, inerrancy, and infallibility of the Bible

• Fellowship members must be committed to the following in their entirety:

• The 5 Solas as they have been historically understood since the Reformation

• The 5 points of the Doctrines of Grace as clearly defined throughout the Bible

• Fellowship members must be men who meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3, Titus 1, and 1 Peter 5.
